This Month On Girl Talk:The National Soccer Hall Of Fame Joins with Girl Talk to Present 2007 National Soccer Hall of Fame Induction CeremonyVisit our MySpace blog throughout the weekend for updates from the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Girl Talk: Choices and Consequences of Underage Drinking is pleased to announce it will present The National Soccer Hall of Fame Induction 2007 ceremonies on Sunday, August 26th in Oneonta, NY. U. S. Women’s National Team stars, two-time Olympic Gold Medalists, and two-time World Cup Champions Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy will be honored by induction into the Hall of Fame in the Player Category. This is an historic moment and Girl Talk is honored to be a part of the opportunity to highlight the careers of two women who had the drive to achieve their goals on and off the playing field. For the first time in the history of the Hall, those selected in the Player Category will be all women. Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy, who were in their first year of eligibility, rose to the top just as they did in their playing careers. They were a lethal combination as teammates and it is fitting that their careers should be capped by being enshrined together in the Hall of Fame. Both women exemplify Girl Talk’s mission to empower teenage girls to lead active, healthy lives and make smart choices. They continue to inspire youth everywhere, especially young girls, to achieve their goals and richly deserve this recognition. It is fitting Girl Talk is able to stand behind these amazing women and present their induction in the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Both Mia and Julie had legendary careers. Hamm’s career is one of unparalleled success. She became the leading scorer in international soccer and the face of women’s soccer in America. Her 158 international goals shattered the previous record by 50 goals. Further, she was an unselfish player, assisting on 144 goals scored by her teammates, figures that unquestionably make her the most dangerous player in the history of the game. Julie’s Women’s National Team career included serving as the team captain, from 2000 through 2004, including the historic overtime win in the Gold Medal match of the 2004 Olympics. Foudy was also a Founding Player for the WUSA and led the San Diego Spirit for its three seasons. She has been President of the Women’s Sports Foundation and has used her visibility in the sport to bring issues beyond soccer to the forefront, most prominently, with her membership on the President’s Advisory Committee on Title IX. She has, among other societal causes, been active in promotion of The Century Council’s Girl Talk message. The induction ceremony will also include a Hall of Fame game which will feature appearances by Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy, as well as former teammates such as Hall of Famer (Class of 2006) Carla Overbeck. The Washington Freedom will be pitted against the SoccerPlus Connecticut Reds for the showcase game. This is a rare chance for soccer fans. How many more times, if ever, will fans get a chance to see Mia, Julie and Carla on the field together? Be sure to check out Girl Talk’s website and Katie O’Connor’s Myspace and Facebook pages throughout the induction weekend. We are sure to provide you an exclusive behind the scene look into the induction and also a few surprises. Girl Talk looks forward to working with the National Soccer Hall of Fame in the future, so be sure to stay tuned. ![]() |
