The Century Council, a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking, announced the first national Public Service Announcement (PSA) campaign contest for their program Girl Talk: Choices and Consequences of Underage Drinking in February.

Girls, ages 15-18, entered the Reel Girls, Real Life contest by submitting a concept video for a PSA designed to persuade teen girls not to drink. The grand prize winner’s PSA concept will be produced and distributed as The Century Council’s first Girl Talk national commercial.

After a nationwide search, The Century Council, along with an esteemed panel of judges, has selected Kylee Darcy of Fairfax, CA as the grand prize winner. Kylee will receive $5,000 and The Century Council will fly her and a parent or guardian to produce the commercial with the pros.

Additional awards include:

First Runner-Up ($2500)

"Reasons I Don't Drink" by Kira LaCoss, New Hampshire

Finalist ($500):

"Hard Year" by Kerri Kehl, Arizona

"Crowd Surfing" by Dorene Ahmad, New York

"Think Twice Before You Drink" by Ralitza Treneva, Illinois

"How Alcohol Affects Self Image" by Melinda Whitaker, Ohio

To assist with the judging, The Century Council assembled a panel of judges to review the entries. The contest judges were:

Amy L. Campbell – Vice President, On-Air Promos, MTV: Music Television

Kate Emanuel – Senior Vice President, Non-Profit and Government Affairs, The Ad Council

Katherine O’Hearn – Executive Producer, This Week With George Stephanopoulos

Ildy Modrovich – Former Writer, CSI: Miami

Darcy is a freshman at UC Berkeley where she is a member of PR Club, PreMed Club and Pi Beta Phi Sorority. A U.S. National silver medalist and Western U.S. gold medalist in Latin and Ballroom Dance, she submitted her winning Reel Girls, Real Life entry while attending Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo, California.

The Century Council will professionally produce Kylee’s entry over the next few months and plans to release the final commercial as a public service announcement in time for prom and graduation season in April 2008.
